OREANDA-NEWS Skyfall and SPECTRE director Sam Mendes is in negotiations to helm Disney's live-action Pinocchio remake.

Deadline reports talks are still early between Mendes and Disney. The Pinocchio remake was first reported to be in the works in 2015 with famed screenwriter Peter Hedges attached to the film.

The remake is said to be a loose take on the beloved fairy tale centered around a wooden marionette who wishes to become a real boy.

Not much else is known about the project as it still seems to be in the early stages of production. Mendes' last film was 2015's SPECTRE, which IGN deemed an "entertaining if overlong" James Bond film.

Disney's latest live-action remake to hit theaters, Beauty and the Beast, was the first film in 2017 to cross $1 billion at the worldwide box office. It's also now the highest-grossing live-action musical of all time. Disney has several other live-action remakes in the works, including The Lion King, Aladdin, Dumbo and Mulan.
