OREANDA-NEWS. September 2, 2008. The UN Regional Centre for Preventive Diplomacy (UNRCCA) holds the four-day workshop Conflict Prevention: Analysis for Action.

The officials of the Central Asian foreign ministries, the UN agencies including UNHCR, UNICEF, UNODC and the international organisations working in the region take part in the meeting that marks the beginning of the activity of the UN largest regional organisation.

Greeting the guests and wishing them successful, fruitful work Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General, Head of the UN Regional Centre for Preventive Diplomacy Miroslav Jenca briefed on the aims and objectives of the new peacemaking organisation which was to play an important role in crisis prevention through activating the potential of modern diplomacy. Those speaking noted that present workshop was another good opportunity to exchange information, to reveal and analyze the problems faced by the region faced to elaborate the follow-up recommendations for the governments of the Central Asian states which urged for the new incentives for peaceful development and advancement of wide international co-operation.

Expressing gratitude to the Turkmen partners for assistance and support the participants noted that such a representative forum in Ashgabat demonstrated the Turkmen Government’s endeavours to maintain a transparent dialogue and its readiness for active co-operation with the community of the nations in working out the participatory approaches to urgent problems at the regional as well as global levels.

Exchanging views the participants noted that under the conditions of the modern world the interested dialogue, the search for the effective ways of solving serious problems and the design of the common conception to achieve regional security were important as never before. In this regard emphasis was put on the necessity of regular consultations with the governments of the countries in the region as well as the international organisations represented in the region, the UN agencies first of, to tackle emerging threats and challenges of the modern world.

The participants focused on the importance of a targeted approach based on the specifics of a particular country and expressed belief that the meeting in Ashgabat would help to elaborate the optimal and most effective approaches to collaboration in the interests of global peace and sustainable development.

During the four-day workshop the participants intended to determine the priority aims and objectives guiding the UNRCCA activity.
