OREANDA-NEWS. October 16, 2008. The seminar focused safety of air navigation is held in Ashgabat. The specialists from Turkey, Azerbaijan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan and the experts of the European Organisation for the Safety of Air Navigation (EUROCONTROL) participate in the three-day meeting held under the aegis of the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO). Turkmenistan is represented by the heads and the high-ranking officials of Turkmenhowayollary State National Service, Turkmenistan Aviation Enterprise and the leading engineers, inspectors and air traffic controllers from Dashoguz, Turkmenabat, Turkmenbashi and Mary.

The agenda includes the review of the ICAO requirements set to the member states to ensure reliability and effectiveness of air services. The systems of aerial navigation in Central Asia, the approaches to introducing safety control systems, safety reporting and investigation and control for flight safety are the focus of the discussions.

Highly appreciating co-operation with the ICAO that Turkmenistan joined in 1993 the high-ranking officials of Turkmenhowayollary State National Service noted that to a largest extent this partnership had considerably contributed to integration of the national civil aviation in the international air transportation system. Having declared wide international co-operation to be a priority of the foreign policy strategy Turkmenistan attached paramount importance to development of civil aviation. In the period the fleet of aircrafts had been renewed through regular purchase of modern comfortable airlines that allowed increasing the frequency of the flights and considerably extending the geography of international passenger traffic.

Today the bridges of friendship and co-operation connect Turkmenistan with many countries worldwide including Turkey, the United Arab Emirates, India, Great Britain, China, Germany, Russia, Thailand. The civil aviation infrastructure meets the international standards, the airports throughout the country are modernized and supplied with state-of-the-art equipment, landing strips under construction to receive aircrafts of various weight-carrying capacity. The representative offices of the world’s airlines opened in Ashgabat testify to intense interest in Turkmenistan for its favourable geographical location on the important transit routes.

Focusing on the importance of enhancing and developing close and fruitful co-operation established in the past years the participants called for intensifying traditional partnership aimed particularly at making flights safe and promoting development of international civil aeronautics in all aspects.
