OREANDA-NEWS. VSMPO-AVISMA company will no longer have to post an antidumping duty on imports of magnesium into the United States, the company's press-service announced. On Tuesday September 11, 2007, the U.S. Department of Commerce published its final determination in the antidumping review of magnesium metal from Russia. VSMPO-AVISMA Corporation participated in the review and received an antidumping margin of 0.41%, (which is considered zero for purposes of the antidumping law). In its original investigation, concluded in 2005, the U.S. Department of Commerce assigned an antidumping rate for magnesium from AVISMA of 21.71%. This rate was based on data from 2003.

In 2006, VSMPO-AVISMA requested that the U.S. Department of Commerce review its actual selling prices since the completion of original investigation. On May 7, 2007, the U.S. Department of Commerce issued a preliminary determination in the review and found a rate of 2.34% for VSMPO-AVISMA. After the preliminary determination, VSMPO-AVISMA was able to convince the U.S. Department of Commerce that certain errors had been made in the preliminary calculations. Correcting these errors resulted in lowering the margin to zero. Therefore, based on the review of actual selling prices, VSMPO-AVISMA was found to not be selling magnesium in the United States at unfair prices. VSMPO-AVISMA will no longer have to post an antidumping duty on imports of magnesium into the United States.
