OREANDA-NEWS. RZhD OJSC and Siberian Coal Energy Company OJSC (SUEK) will jointly develop the Vaninsko-Sovgavansky junction.

According to the press service of SUEK, the relevant agreement was achieved on June 15, 2007 during the joint working visit of RZhD OJSC President Vladimir Yakunin, Khabarovsk Territory Governor Victor Ishaev and SUEK OJSC General Director Vladimir Rashevsky to the construction site of one of the largest coal terminals in the country - in Muchke bay of the Vanino port (Khabarovsk Territory).

Within the framework of the meeting in which representatives of the largest companies of the Khabarovsk Territory, consigning cargoes in this direction (oil products, alumina, metallurgical complex products) also participated, the key aspects of development of the junction were considered.

At the meeting it was noted that upon completion of construction in the middle of 2008 carried out by OJSC SUEK the terminal will be able to transship up to 12 million of coal belonging both to SUEK and other Russian companies. At the same time, taking into consideration growing activity of cargo flow from Russia to countries of the Asia-Pacific Region there is a possibility for further increasing of the transshipped cargoes volume up to 16-20 million tones per year with simultaneous active development of cargo flow to Russia including bulk and container cargoes.

At the meeting Vladimir Yakunin and Vladimir Rashevsky signed the Memorandum of Understanding determining parameters of RZhD and SUEK cooperation as regards matters associated with transportation of cargoes to the Vanino port, increase of the existing carrying capacity of the railway.

In particular OJSC SUEK will ensure construction, maintenance and operation of the bulk terminal and its achievement of the design capacity on transshipment of coal. OJSC RZhD will work on enforcement of carrying capacities of the railway line Komsomolsk-on-Amur-Sovetskaya Gavan, in particular by means of reconstruction of the section Oune - Vysokogornaya with the new Kyznetsovsky tunnel to be constructed in the section Komsomolsk-on-Amur-Sovetskaya Gavan which is included in the list of projects entitled for support of the of the RF Investment Fund. RZhD also intends to implement a set of measures allowing to increase carrying capacity of the railway for cargo flow towards direction of the bulk terminal in the bay.
