OREANDA-NEWS.  Discover Bank recently received the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve’s (ESGR) 2016 Pro Patria award in Delaware and was recognized as a national semifinalist for the 2016 Secretary of Defense Employer Support Freedom Award for the company’s military work-at-home program.

Discover’s award-winning program, now in its fourth year, provides training, resources and job opportunities for military personnel and their family members seeking careers within the financial services industry. In addition to training, Discover supplies each new employee with the proper equipment and installation support to ensure a successful working environment from home.

“It’s an honor to be recognized for our work-at-home program,” said Jim Roszkowski, president of Discover Bank. “We are committed to providing military veterans and their families with flexible and rewarding job opportunities.”

The Pro Patria award is presented annually by each ESGR State Committee to one small, one large and one public sector employer in their state or territory. Recipients of the award have demonstrated the greatest support to National Guard and Reserve employees through their leadership practices, including adopting personnel policies that make it easier for employees to participate in the Guard and Reserve. It is the highest level award that may be bestowed by an ESGR State Committee.

The Freedom Award is the highest recognition given by the U.S. Government to employers for their support of their employees who serve in the National Guard and Reserve. It is the highest in a series of employer recognition awards given by the Department of Defense.

Initial nominations for both awards come from a Guard or Reserve member who is employed at the organization.
