OREANDA-NEWS. Now thanks to Sberbank you can pay for purchases in Azbuka Vkusa supermarket by putting your finger on a special POS terminal with an imbedded biometric scanner. To do this, simply undergo the quick registration procedure at the cash desk of the supermarket and bind two fingerprints to a bank card of the international payment systems VISA or MasterCard through a POS terminal.

After you turn on the service and bind your fingerprints to a bank card, you can start paying for purchases with fingerprints without using your bank card. Clients can also use the ordinary card payment method.

Participants of the project do not store the biometric data of their clients – after scanning the data is transformed into a unique set of numeric codes. Each code is assigned an identifier, which is bound to the bank card used during the registration in a separate database.

Currently the technology is used at the supermarket at the address 61 Nakhimovsky Avenue, Moscow. Sberbank has equipped all the cash desks of the store with POS terminals with the biometric identification function.

“Our project with Azbuka Vkusa is the first biometric project in the Russian retail sector. Sberbank is planning to continue to implement biometric payment methods in merchant acquiring,” said Svetlana Kirsanova, Head of Trade Acquiring at Sberbank. “Biometric operations are convenient because they enable payments without a bank card and PINs. Biometric operations allow us to conduct transactions without carrying a bank card or cash with us.”
