OREANDA-NEWS. The damage to five popular companies - manufacturers of perfumes from the sale of counterfeit cosmetic products on Internet sites in 2019 amounted to from 3.7 billion to 22.5 billion rubles. for each brand, the total loss reaches 64.8 billion rubles. These data are presented in a study by the international company Group-IB, which specializes in developing products for cybersecurity.

Losses in the industry were recorded on the basis of the average toilet water bill (from 3 thousand to 9.7 thousand rubles), store traffic, conversion and a number of other indicators, experts said. According to Euromonitor International, the volume of the Russian perfumery market two years ago accounted for only about 2% ($ 8.8 billion, or 555 billion rubles) of the global turnover.

Today, there are more than 35,000 informal stores selling counterfeit branded perfumes online, the Group-IB said. To attract the attention of buyers, such scammers use one or more cosmetic brands, contextual advertising, targeted mailing via SMS and instant messengers.

Sellers of counterfeit cosmetics also distribute their products in clandestine forums: last year, for example, more than 3.6 thousand messages were found with advertisements for wholesale and wholesale of perfumes. There were also wholesale offers in the name of which several brands are mentioned at once.
