OREANDA-NEWSDeputy Prime Minister Dmitry Kozak, in an interview with Rossiya 24, commenting on Gazprom’s consent to pay Naftogaz compensation of $ 2.9 billion in the execution of the Stockholm arbitration decision, called this amount a drop in the bucket compared to the refusal of further claims.

“We can definitely say that the $ 2.9 billion that we will pay to enforce the court decision that has already entered into force is a drop in the bucket compared to the claims, potential risks that could be for Russia”, he said, noting that "these amounts would be much higher". Kozak added that neither the Ukrainian nor the Russian side can predict “how much anyone won”.

The fact that Gazprom agreed to pay compensation of $ 2.9 billion to Naftogaz and conclude a five-year contract, which in turn undertook to withdraw other claims against the Russian company and remove the arrest from its assets, became known on December 20. The companies also agreed on the possibility of prolonging the contract for ten years. Gazprom has promised to pay Naftogaz $ 2.9 billion in compensation by the end of the year.
