OREANDA-NEWS Press Secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov said that there could be no objective reasons for Russia's default. According to him, the country has both the money and the willingness to pay it, TASS reports.

"Our position is well known: there can be no objective reasons for a default. There is money, and there is a willingness to pay it - whether in rubles or according to a scheme that may be more convenient for paper holders," Peskov said.

Earlier, Russian Finance Minister Anton Siluanov said that Russia would pay the public debt in a similar way to the scheme, according to which unfriendly countries pay for Russian gas in rubles.

Investment strategist at Arikapital Management Company Sergey Suverov said earlier that Russia would pay its foreign debt in rubles and go to court if US actions lead to a technical default. The expert noted that the announcement of default will be a recognition of the effectiveness of sanctions and pressure on the country, and a technical default, according to him, will not affect the Russian economy in any way.
