OREANDA-NEWSThe aggregate demand of Russians for cash foreign currency in January 2020 decreased by 35% compared to December 2019 and amounted to $ 3.5 billion. This was reported in the materials of the Bank of Russia.

"In January 2020, the aggregate demand of the population for cash foreign currency (the amount purchased in authorized banks, received from the conversion and cash foreign currency withdrawn from foreign currency accounts) decreased by 35% compared to December 2019 and amounted to $ 3.5 billion. Its volume was less than in January 2018 and 2019, by 28 and 8%, respectively", stated in the materials of the regulator.

Also in the materials of the Central Bank it is noted that the average size of a transaction for the purchase of foreign currency in January decreased by 4% and amounted to $ 1 thousand 237. Compared with December 2019, the volume and number of purchase transactions decreased by 37% and 34%, respectively.

Also, according to the Central Bank, in January 2020, the Russians withdrew $ 1.7 billion from foreign currency accounts opened with authorized banks, which is 33% less than a month earlier.
