OREANDA-NEWS. Sweden will send 50 million Swedish kronor (about $5.5 million) to Ukraine. The funds provided by the kingdom are designed to provide support over the next three years. They will go to the "Sustainable Ukraine" partner fund, created jointly with the USA, Canada, Great Britain and Switzerland. This is stated in a press release from the government office published on Wednesday, February 2.

“Today we again demonstrate Sweden's solidarity with Ukraine and unwavering support for its sovereignty and territorial integrity,” Swedish Minister for International Development and Cooperation Matilda Ernkrans said.

According to her, the fund is designed to strengthen the ability of Ukraine "to resist Russian aggression in the southeast", contributing to the expansion of dialogue and economic development.

It is also specified that today Ukraine is the largest recipient of aid from the kingdom, which is allocated for reforms in Eastern Europe. About 240 million Swedish crowns (more than $25 million) are annually allocated for these purposes.

Earlier, in mid-January, the Danish government allocated €22 million to support Ukraine.

On January 24, the European Union (EU) promised to allocate a new macro-financial assistance package worth €1.2 billion to Ukraine. The funds should help the country "to cope with financial needs due to the conflict," said the head of the European Commission (EC), Ursula von der Leyen.

Western politicians and media representatives continue to spread numerous rumors about possible Russian aggression against Ukraine. The Russian side has repeatedly denied such statements. Moscow stressed that it had no plans to invade a neighboring country.

On January 28, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that Russia was not going to start a war with Ukraine. He clarified that it is necessary to force Ukraine to comply with the Minsk agreements.
