OREANDA-NEWS. Crimean Senator Olga Kovitidi said that the issue of tougher penalties for buying and selling foreign currency on the black market is likely to be discussed soon. It is reported by RIA Novosti.

“Obviously, illegal currency transactions cause damage to the state, and we will not put up with this. As for the toughening of liability for illegal currency transactions, I think this issue may arise in the near future,” Kovitidi specified.

According to the Russian senator, the issue of tightening should be considered against the backdrop of the influence and spread of illegal business activities among persons selling currency without a license.

Kovitidi stressed that parliamentarians need to study the law enforcement practice in this category of cases as quickly as possible and make a decision by amending the legislation of the Russian Federation.

The senator did not provide any details regarding toughening measures for buying and selling foreign currency on the black market.

Earlier, Russians were allowed to transfer currency to open foreign accounts.
