OREANDA-NEWS. Executive Director of the World Food Programme (WFP) UN David Beazley asked American entrepreneur, head of Tesla and SpaceX Elon Musk for $6 billion to fight the threat of hunger and it's consequences. He noted that in many ways this problem has become acute due to the coronavirus pandemic. Beazley wrote about this on Twitter.

He stressed that 42 million people in 2021 were on the verge of starvation. If the UN does not resolve this issue, the world will face destabilization of the situation and mass migration. «Elon Musk, you just earned $6 billion yesterday — this is exactly the amount we need to prevent a catastrophe! Please help», Beazley wrote

Earlier, the Secretary-General of the United Nations (UN) Antonio Guterres said that the coronavirus pandemic has led to an increase in the number of hungry people in the world. According to him, about 160 million people faced hunger. Guterres added that during the pandemic, at least 120 million people found themselves in extreme poverty, and 100 million children are experiencing difficulties with getting an education.
