OREANDA-NEWS. The World Bank has revised the forecast for the growth of the Russian economy in 2021 and 2022 for the better.

Earlier, in January, the Development Institute calculated that this year it will be 2.6 percent, and next year - three. Now the first indicator has grown to 2.9 percent, the second to 3.2.

As the report on the economy of the Europe and Central Asia region said: "The recovery is expected to pick up steam, with economic growth accelerating as the effects of the pandemic gradually weaken."

Experts also linked the change in the forecast to a smaller-than-expected contraction in the Russian economy last year, which will amount to minus 3.1 percent.

At the same time, it is emphasized that analytical data still remain subject to a high level of uncertainty and risks.

The report also talks about the positive change in the country's poverty level. "After rising in 2020, poverty is expected to decline in 2021, but will exceed pre-pandemic levels until 2022," the World Bank said on the economy of the Europe and Central Asia region. The authors of the report also note that the government's social measures have prevented an even greater increase in poverty.

Reducing the level of poverty in Russia is one of the goals of the decree of the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin on national goals. Among the indicators to be achieved by 2030: a decrease in the poverty level by half compared to the data of 2017.
