OREANDA-NEWSThe Russian Mining Company (RMC), created with the participation of Internet ombudsman Dmitry Marinichev, will place equipment for cryptocurrency mining at the Nadvoitsky Aluminum Plant in Karelia. Marinichev himself told the Russian media about this.

This plant is owned by Rusal and was mothballed in August 2018, as it lost the opportunity to supply its products to the United States after the imposition of sanctions. A representative of Rusal confirmed to the media that RMC places equipment on the premises of the enterprise. According to him, this is not the only local tenant after the electrolysis production was mothballed at the NAZ. But who and for what purposes rents the premises of the plant, the representative of Rusal didn't specify.

According to Marinichev, RMC is interested in creating a digital hub based on NAZ, which will sell computing power abroad. “Now the plant for Rusal is unprofitable, the electricity supplied to it's practically not being utilized, and people living in the single-industry town near the plant have nowhere to work. Our idea is to redesign the plant and sell its computing power as a service, that is, provide an IT service”, said Marinichev. Such a service could be interesting, for example, to those who would like to engage in cryptocurrency mining, the development of neural networks and artificial intelligence, etc.
