OREANDA-NEWS. Poland withdrew its earlier consent to conclude an agreement with Russia on the support and mutual protection of investments. This was stated by the press secretary of the government of the republic, Peter Muller, adding that the document was signed on October 2, 1992, but did not enter into force. According to him, there were reasons to fear that Moscow could "bring to this" at any time, RIA Novosti reports.

We see this possibility as a threat that could follow from the norms of this agreement. It is archaic and departs from the practice of European norms. Because of such caution, we decided to send a note to the Russian government about withdrawing Poland's consent to be bound by this agreement," he said.

According to Muller, the conclusion of this agreement "would not guarantee protection for Polish entrepreneurs investing in Russia."

Earlier, Mueller said that the Polish authorities decided to freeze $ 33 million of Russian assets in the country as part of EU sanctions. In addition, Poland proposed to supplement European sanctions against Russia with a trade blockade. Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki called on European leaders to block water and land routes for sending Russian goods.
