OREANDA-NEWS. Yandex has spearheaded a $ 4 million investment round in genetic research medical services Genotek, the service said.

As a result of the deal, Yandex became a shareholder of the service, and a company representative will become a member of Genotek's board of directors. Information on the exact share and who will enter the board of directors is not specified.

Genotek founders Artem Elmuratov and Valery Ilyinsky retained a controlling stake in the service.

Investments are planned to be directed to the development of the scientific, medical and commercial base of the company, the creation of new products and the development of services.

"Like other Genotek shareholders, Yandex will not have access to the company's technological solutions and user data. There are no plans to change the privacy policy, which implies a complete prohibition on the transfer of any personal data of clients to anyone, including the company's shareholders," claimed in the message.

Genotek was founded in 2010. The service conducts DNA research, as a result of which users of the service can identify the likelihood of diseases, determine the origin, find relatives, make a diagnosis and choose an effective therapy.
