OREANDA-NEWS. The Russian youth ice hockey team won the silver medal at the World Championship that ended in the USA. In the final, the Russian team lost to their Canadian peers with a score of 3: 5. Team Canada won the Junior World Championship for the first time since 2013. The Russian team, like a year ago, won silver medals.

In the first period, our team was leading in the score 1: 0 after a throw by Matvey Michkov and 2: 1 after a goal by Dmitry Buchelnikov. But the rivals tied the score twice - the goals were scored by Connor Bedard and Shane Wright. After the first period 2: 2.

In the second period, the Russian national team created a lot of chances at the gate of the Canadians, but did not use any of them. At the same time, our young hockey players conceded two goals - Brennan Othman and Logan Stankoven scored one goal each. After two periods 4: 2 in favor of the Canadian national team.

In the third period, Vladimir Grudinin managed to score in the majority - 3: 4. Our team did everything to win back. At the end of the period, goalkeeper Sergei Ivanov was replaced by the sixth field player. Did not help. Less than a minute before the end of regular time, Shane Wright hit the empty net and set the final score.

The most valuable player in the championship was recognized as the forward of the Russian national team Matvey Michkov. For the entire tournament, Matvey scored 12 goals and made 4 assists. Michkov scored one goal in the final meeting.

Matvey also won two more personal trophies. He was named the best striker of the tournament and became the top scorer of the World Championship.
