OREANDA-NEWSThe Summer Olympic Games in Tokyo were postponed until the summer of 2021 due to a pandemic of coronavirus infection, the American media reports.

This decision was made during the negotiations between the Prime Minister of Japan Shinzo Abe and the President of the International Olympic Committee, Thomas Bach. Initially, it was the head of the Japanese government who initiated the move.

At the same time, Tokyo Governor Yuriko Koike said that the competition will retain the name Tokyo 2020. Earlier, Australia, Canada and Norway refused to send their athletes to the Games in connection with the coronavirus pandemic. The Olympic Committees of the USA and Germany have appealed to the IOC with a request to postpone the Olympics.
