OREANDA-NEWS. The organisers of the French Open tennis championship had to reduce the number of viewers allowed on the stands by five times. No more than 1000 spectators will be able to watch the matches of the Grand Slam tournament daily. Although the number of tennis fans wishing to become the part of this expected sport event only in France, of course, is much bigger.

This was done by order of French Prime Minister Jean Casteks, who ordered to reduce the number of tennis fans admitted to the courts to 1000. The reason of this restriction is the necessity to observe the precautionary measures caused by the increased number of coronavirus infections. By the way, 16,096 new cases of COVID-19 infection were registered among French residents on September 24, and it was the highest daily rate in the country.

First the organizers of Roland Garros were going to allow 11,500 spectators come into the stands to watch the matches every day. But soon there was a strict order from the French authorities that this number would be reduced to 5,000 visitors daily. Now this figure has also been reduced by five times.

The French Open tennis championship is going to start on September, 27, while the finish of the tournament is planned on October, 11.
