OREANDA-NEWS. Angelina Melnikova won gold at the World Artistic Gymnastics Championships in individual all-around, the competition is being held in Kitakyushu (Japan).

Melnikova scored 56.632 points based on the results of exercises on the balance beam, uneven bars, in the vault and floor exercises. Silver and bronze won by American women Leanne Wong (56.340) and Kayla di Cello (54.566). Another representative of Russia Vladislav Urazova (53.598) took fourth place.

Russian Angelina Melnikova did not have a break for rest after the Olympic Games in Tokyo, and, despite this, managed to win the all-around at the World Championships, President of the Russian Artistic Gymnastics Federation (FSGR) Vasily Titov told RIA Novosti.

"Gela is just great! She did not give herself a second of rest, she did not have a break after the Olympics, all this time she did not just train, but did it very persistently and achieved results," Titov said.

The last time a representative of Russia won the gold of the world championship in the women's all-around was in 2010, then Aliya Mustafina became the world champion in this discipline.

Melnikova is 21 years old, at the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo she won gold in team competitions, became a bronze medalist in individual all-around and floor exercises. Melnikova also won silver at the 2016 Games in Rio de Janeiro in team competitions, four gold medals at the European Championships, two silver and two bronze medals at the World Championships.

The World Championships in Kitakyushu will end on October 24th.
