OREANDA-NEWS. Members of the expedition "Eastern Bastion-Kuril ridge" found on the island of Iturup network of underground passages built, as expected, during the Second world war.  This is reported by the press service of the Eastern military district.

"During the search operation on the island of Iturup was discovered a network of underground passages, presumably built during the Second world war. It was investigated about 100 meters of underground space", - it is told in the message.

During the excavations, circles of 1953 with the image of a star were found.  In addition, a sunken wooden Japanese schooner built in the 1930s and 1940s was discovered in Kasatkin Bay.  It is located 60-80 meters from the coast and during low tide partially appears from under the water.
