OREANDA-NEWS. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) is not considering holding the Olympic Games in Tokyo behind closed doors because of coronavirus spread. This is reported by The Guardian newspaper, citing its own sources.

As the publication reads, representatives of the IOC state that such measures “would be anathema to the philosophy of a movement that seeks to bring people across the globe together in celebration of sport.”

In addition, a journalists’ interlocutors announced that the IOC plans to relax qualification standards. This will allow those athletes who will be forced to miss the competition in the coming months to qualify for the Games.

The Committee also drew attention to the fact that violation of the schedule of the Olympics can lead to significant financial losses of the organizers.
