OREANDA-NEWS. The Tokyo Marathon 2021 has been postponed from March to October due to the coronavirus pandemic. This was reported on the official website of the competition.

The Tokyo Marathon was initially scheduled for March 7, 2021. The organizers decided to postpone it until October 17. It is assumed that both professional athletes and amateurs will be able to take part in it. “In preparation for the next event, the Tokyo Marathon Foundation is carefully reviewing plans that will adhere to the situation surrounding COVID-19. We would like to thank everyone in advance for the great support and understanding as we continue to work diligently to deliver a safe and secure event,” the press release reads.

In March 2020, the Tokyo Marathon was held with only professional runners.

The Tokyo Marathon is a part of the series World Marathon Majors. This year, only two out of six races took place: in Tokyo and London. Marathons in Berlin, Boston, New York and Chicago have been canceled because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
