OREANDA-NEWS. UEFA has suspended Dutch club «Ajax» goalkeeper Andre Onan for 12 months because of an anti-doping rule violation. After an out-of-competition check on October 30, 2020, furosemide was found in the urine of a 24-year-old player.

The disqualification starts from today, February 5, and applies to all competitions. «Ajax» explained that on October 30, the Cameroonian felt ill and took a pill of medicine, that was prescribed to his wife. The commission ruled, that there was no malicious intent in Onan's actions, but the athlete still had to make sure, that prohibited substances did not enter his body. Onana and «Ajax» will challenge the decision in the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).

Andre Onana is a Cameroonian football player, who plays as a goalkeeper for «Ajax» and the Cameroon national team. For the first time, Onan's name appeared in the list of players of the national team for a friendly match against France in May 2016. He made his first-team debut on 6 September 2016 in a friendly match against Gabon, in which Andre conceded a goal. The match ended in a 2-1 victory for Cameroon.
