OREANDA-NEWS. In Russia, there are about 35 thousand visually impaired children with 3,000 of them being completely blind. Atomredmetzoloto JSC has been cooperating with the Illustrated Books for Blind Children Foundation for nearly 10 years. This Foundation is the only charitable foundation in Russia making unique tactile books understandable to visually impaired children. The books created by the Foundation at the expense of ARMZ are transferred as a gift to blind and visually impaired kids in the regions where the Holding enterprises are operating.

These books are designed taking into account the features of visual and tactile perception of images by visually impaired children (tactile inserts, bright contrasting colors, larger images not overloaded with detailing, image outline embossing). All this allows the kids being on par with their strong-eyed peers and cultivate their love of reading and aspiration of knowledge.

In 2016, the gift set includes the following books: “A Tomtit’s Calendar” and “Interesting Tasks”, fairy tales “A Fairy’s Gifts” and “Magic Ring”. By using these books, the still weak-eyed kids can “feel” and see bright and colorful characters, animals and birds, as well as believe that any obstacle can be overcome.

At New Year’s Eve, the sets of educational books were transferred to the Krasnokamensk kindergarten No.12 (Trans-Baikal Territory), the Dalmatovo kindergarten No.11 (Kurgan Region) and the Ulan-Ude boarding school No.62 (Republic of Buryatia).

When handing the books at the Dalmatovo kindergarten No.11 of Kurgan Region, Victor Svyatetskiy, First Deputy Director General - Chief Operating Officer of ARMZ Uranium Holding, said, “We hope that this gift will help the children learn about the world, fill them with positive emotions and impressions. As for the teaching staff, it will help them in terms of aesthetic and moral development of the kids.”

Children read these unusual books not only during group studies and speech therapy sessions, but also during their spare time. The kids especially like the fairy tale sounding by means of a “talking pencil”. With this device, the children who are yet to master reading can not only listen to fairy tales, text tasks and puzzles accompanied by music, but also learn poems. The headphones supplied allow them not to interfere with each other.
