OREANDA-NEWS. July 13, 2016. The Parliament of the Republic of Moldova adopted the ratification of the Universal Postal Convention and its additional acts signed in Doha on October 11, 2012.  The mentioned acts aim at continuous development of postal services according to the changes that take place on the market of international postal communications.

The ratification of the Universal Postal Union acts signed in Doha will offer several advantages to the Republic of Moldova, including ensuring the free transit of the letters in the Member States of the Union, organization and operation of financial international services, technical assistance regarding the promotion of the new postal technologies, and the opportunity to participate in workshops, conferences and continuous training for the employees of the postal sector.

The Universal Postal Convention signed in 2012 ensures the common regulations of the universal postal service functioning and lays down general provisions on the activity of postal services for sending letters and parcels. Also, the signed documents are to regulate postal dispatches for blind persons, and ensure the postal security and the right to claim compensation for lost or spoilt dispatches, establish new provisions concerning the processing of personal data and boost the development of electronic postal services. 

The Universal Postal Union was established in 1874 and represents the main forum for cooperation amongst the postal administrations of the 192 member countries. The Union's mission is to develop socio-cultural and commercial communication among member states and the development of universal postal service. The Republic of Moldova is a plenipotentiary member of UPU since November 16, 1992.
