OREANDA-NEWS At the meeting of the Judicial Reform Council, President Petro Poroshenko informed that he instructed to ensure state guard for Head of the High Council of Justice Ihor Benedysiuk.

“I’ve made a decision to ensure state guard for the Head of the High Council of Justice at least for the period of contest. This is the position of the President who must ensure independence in the formation of the Supreme Court,” the Head of State noted. He added that he expects resolute actions from the investigators, prosecutors and police who must conduct a proper investigation into the attack on Ihor Benedysiuk and provide information to the public.

In his turn, Head of the HCJ underlined the importance of ensuring security of judges. Ihor Benedysiuk noted that the Government still hasn’t adopted a decree on security of courts. According to him, the High Council of Justice received over 80 complaints about the attacks on judges, inter alia, directly in court.

The President noted: “If courts are not protected we can forget about independence. I urge the Cabinet of Ministers to speed up the consideration of the instruction that will ensure proper protection of courts and resolve the given issue as soon as possible”.
