OREANDA-NEWS. September 15, 2016.  President Petro Poroshenko had a meeting with Minister of Foreign Affairs of Poland Witold Waszczykowski.

The Head of State expressed gratitude to Poland for its active role in consolidation of the EU countries’ position in support of territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine and assistance in the implementation of internal reforms in Ukraine.

Petro Poroshenko underscored the necessity of developing economic relations between Ukraine and Poland, inter alia, in the energy sphere. “There is no alternative to strategic partnership between Ukraine and Poland,” the President said.

In the course of the conversation, the parties stressed the importance of concluding bilateral agreement on cooperation in defense sphere in the nearest time and prolongation of interaction regarding the Ukrainian-Polish-Lithuanian brigade.

The parties noted the importance of introducing visa-free regime between Ukraine and the EU shortly. In this context, the Foreign Minister of Poland emphasized that Ukraine had made a tremendous job in the fulfillment of criteria necessary for the introduction of the visa-free regime with the EU and now “the EU has the obligation to introduce this regime with Ukraine”.

The President informed the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Poland on the situation in the east of Ukraine and emphasized the importance of Poland’s support for the policy of sanctions against the country-aggressor due to the non-fulfillment of its obligations under the Minsk process.

Special attention was paid to the preparation of the official visit of the Ukrainian President to Poland in December 2016.
