OREANDA-NEWS. October 10, 2016. In the course of the working trip to Odesa region, President Petro Poroshenko visited vineyard in Bilyayivka to get himself acquainted with technological process of cultivation and harvesting grape.

“Ukrainians have been making wine for more than a thousand years. We must do everything to revive winemaking. Ukrainian wine has been glorifying Ukraine all over the world,” Petro Poroshenko noted.

The President recalled difficult times of Soviet era when winemaking was eliminated. This industry has been overregulated until recently. There have been numerous obstacles for viticulturists and winemakers.

In the presence of winemakers from different districts of Odesa region, the Head of State signed the Law of Ukraine on Amendments to the Law of Ukraine on the State Regulation of Production and Turnover of Ethanol, Cognac and Fruit Spirits, Alcoholic Beverages and Tobacco Products, which abolishes the rule under which wine producers had to pay UAH 500 000 for wholesale certification.

“Ukrainian winemaker is not obliged to pay this money for certification anymore. We have made a very important decision. Everyone – President, Parliament, Government. This law opens the way for Ukrainian wine producers,” the Head o State emphasized.

According to him, “everyone should still work to develop the industry and prevent counterfeit products and powdered wine from entering the market”.

“Ukraine has a fantastic wine and wonderful winemakers. It is worthwhile to come here. Ukrainian wine will earn fame in Europe and the world,” the President said.
