OREANDA-NEWS. August 30, 2016. A FedNor investment of \\$1,020,000 through the Community Futures Program will enable the Superior North Community Futures Development Corporation to offer business counselling and access to capital services, as well as support community strategic planning initiatives for a three-year period. Based in Terrace Bay, the organization's service area includes nine communities stretching from Dorion in the west to Marathon and Manitouwadge in the east, as well as the First Nation communities of Red Rock, Pays Plat and Pic River. Superior North is one of 24 Community Futures Development Corporations (CFDCs) funded by FedNor to serve Northern Ontario businesses and communities. CFDCs are community-based, not-for-profit organizations run by volunteer boards and staffed by experienced business and economic development professionals.

Township of Terrace Bay
\\$130,162

An investment of \\$130,162, through FedNor, will enable the Township of Terrace Bay to undertake two separate initiatives. A contribution of \\$82,912 will be used to replace the heating control system in the community's recreation facility. This Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program (CIP 150) funding is part of the Government of Canada's coordinated approach to mark the 150th anniversary of Confederation. These investments will help create jobs, boost economic activity, strengthen communities, and celebrate Canada's rich heritage and history.

An additional \\$47,250 in Northern Ontario Development Program funding will enable the community to hire a business development intern to help businesses enhance their productivity and competitiveness; undertake succession planning, marketing, and social media training; and organize events in partnership with small business to increase local and regional consumer spending.

Township of Manitouwadge
\\$100,000

Remedial work to replace two pool liners for community swimming facilities in Manitouwadge is moving ahead with an investment of \\$100,000 in Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program (CIP 150) funding.  The project, which also includes repairs to the concrete bases and the installation of two water heaters, is part of the federal government's approach to celebrate Canada's 150th anniversary of Confederation.

Township of Schreiber
\\$63,500

Schreiber's public library will be renovated thanks to a Canada CIP 150 investment of \\$63,500, provided through FedNor. The project will entail upgrades to signage, new windows, carpeting, siding, as well as accessibility enhancements. Canada CIP 150 is designed to leave a lasting legacy by supporting the rehabilitation or improvement of existing community infrastructure assets and facilities across the country that promote community and cultural benefits for the public.

Local Services Board of Rossport
\\$15,000

With a Canada CIP 150 investment of \\$15,000, provided through FedNor, the Local Services Board of Rossport is hiring a contractor to replace the roof on its community hall. Used for recreational activities, public events, seniors' activities and gatherings, the rehabilitation of the centre will ensure the community has a safe place for recreation, healthy living and entertainment.
