OREANDA-NEWS. Advisor to the head of the Russian State Corporation for Space Activities Roscosmos, 30-year-old Ivan Safronov, was detained in Moscow under the article of the Criminal Code on high treason.

This information was confirmed in Roscosmos. Details of the case are not given. “State Corporation Roscosmos provides all kinds of assistance to the investigating authorities. The detention of I. Safronov does not concern current work at the State Corporation Roscosmos,” the statement says.

Media report that the detention of Safronov may be related to his previous journalistic work. According to Interfax agency, citing a source, Safronov did not have access to state secret in Roscosmos.

Journalist Ivan Safronov was appointed Information Policy Advisor to the Director General of Roscosmos on May 18, 2020. In 2010–2019, he worked at the publishing house Kommersant, and then at the newspaper Vedomosti. Safronov was engaged in covering the activities of the Russian Defense Ministry, space industry and issues of military-technical cooperation.
