OREANDA-NEWS. The Taliban (the Taliban * is under UN sanctions for terrorist activities) have responsibly and constructively approached cooperation with Moscow in the export of Russians from Afghanistan in order to prevent a situation similar to that that arose when the Americans were evacuated at the Kabul airport, the Russian ambassador said in Kabul Dmitry Zhirnov.

“We all remember what happened at the Kabul airport, when the Americans were taking out their own people, how many people died then because of the confusion. I must say that the Taliban authorities interacted with us in this matter constructively and responsibly,” he told reporters.

Zhirnov added that organizing the evacuation of the Russians was not easy, it required the mobilization of the entire embassy, but the staff, he said, worked "clearly, harmoniously, like one team."

“It was necessary to gather our citizens, and these are several hundred people, to work out an algorithm with the Taliban so that the export of Russians would take place in safe and comfortable conditions for them,” he stressed.

In early August, the Taliban stepped up their offensive against Afghan government forces, entered Kabul on August 15, and announced the next day that the war was over. The last two weeks of August from the airport in Kabul, which was under the protection of the US military, there was a mass evacuation of Western citizens and Afghans who collaborated with them. On the night of August 31, the US military left the Kabul airport, ending the nearly 20-year US military presence in Afghanistan. In early September, the composition of the interim government of Afghanistan was announced, headed by Mohammad Hasan Akhund, who served as foreign minister during the first Taliban * rule and has been under UN sanctions since 2001.
