Palais des Nations in Geneva hosted a meeting of a Ukrainian delegation headed by Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine Pavlo Rozenko and Director-General of the International Labour Organization (ILO) Guy Ryder. During the meeting Pavlo Rozenko handed over to Guy Ryder the instrument of ratification by Ukraine of the ILO Convention No. 102.

"September 16 is, without exaggeration, a landmark date for Ukraine. The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine ratified No. 102 Convention concerning Minimum Standards of Social Security. It took Ukraine over 10 years to make this event happen”, said Vice Prime Minister Pavlo Rozenko following the signing of the ratification documents. “Ratification of Convention No. 102 should become for Ukraine a starting point for further development of social policy focusing on a higher level of social protection and social security of citizens."

Pavlo Rozenko noted that the entry into force for Ukraine of the ILO Convention concerning Minimum Standards of Social Security No. 102 would contribute to aligning Ukrainian legislation in the field of social security with international standards, in particular standards of the International Labour Organization. In addition, according to him, it creates preconditions for Ukraine's accession to the European Code of Social Security as a whole.

"We realize that the work in this direction is just beginning, and it will be associated with the implementation of Convention No. 102 and further submission of national reports regarding its application for consideration by the ILO Committee of Experts on the Application of Conventions and Recommendations", said Pavlo Rozenko.

"Ukraine expects to receive technical support from the ILO, which should be aimed at ensuring higher levels of protection for maximum coverage of all segments of the population, taking into account economic and financial possibilities of the state", explained the Vice Prime Minister.

As is known, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine ratified the Convention of the International Labour Organization No. 102, thereby it guarantees citizens the minimum standards of social security. By this law, Ukraine acceded to 9 out of 15 sections of the Convention.

The document defines types of social assistance, the conditions and amount of social payments, provides for minimum standards when major social risks occur.

As was reported, the Ukrainian delegation takes part in the 105th Session of the International Labour Conference. The delegation includes Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine Pavlo Rozenko, Minister of Social Policy of Ukraine Andrii Reva, Deputy Minister of Social Policy Valerii Yaroshenko, acting Chairman of the State Employment Service Serhii Kravchenko, Head of the State Labour Service of Ukraine Roman Chernega, National ILO Coordinator in Ukraine Serhii Savchuk, representatives of trade unions, employers etc.
