OREANDA-NEWS. Training manoeuvres of EMERCOM of Russia ended on the water surface of the Gulf of Finland close to Lenexpo during the Baltic Sea Festival. The task to conduct an inspection parade of resources, men and equipment of ensuring safety at St. Petersburg water facilities was carried out excellently!

The spectacular show on the water started with the firing of a flare gun and automatic gunfire salvos. The training manoeuvres’ legend is harsh: a pleasure boat with passengers, parked in the harbour, was captured by terrorists, while an adversary diver attached an explosive to the bottom of the boat. Their accomplices surrounded the captured ship and maintained the defence on motor boats.

Employees of law enforcement agencies hurried to help the hostages, trying to convince the terrorists to release the people and surrender. However, all attempts to resolve the situation peacefully did not succeed and there was only one way out: an assault. The explosion on the boat started a fire. The passengers panicked. People were in the water and some of them were injured. Two fire and rescue boats were sent to put out the fire on the watercraft and save the people.

The roar of rescue helicopters was heard from the sky. The diving team fighters of the Special Unit of the Federal Fire-Fighting Service in St. Petersburg jumped directly from them onto the water surface. People were evacuated from the water to the helicopters using a rope system. Afterwards, the rotary wing rescuers would deliver the hypothetical injured to the city hospitals. Meanwhile, the end was in no way near: the explosion caused a fuel spill and a Pilarn GUN oil waste disposal vessel arrived to eliminate the oil spill, while a mobile group from the Vodokanal Emergency Rescue Service came by boat to take water samples.

The inspection parade was attended by employees of the State Inspectorate for Small Boats in St. Petersburg, fighters of the Special Unit of the Federal Fire-Fighting Service, rescuers of the St. Petersburg Search and Rescue Service, the Office of Transport of the MIAI of Russia for the Northwest Federal District, a motorised SWAT company in boats the MIA SD for St. Petersburg and the Leningrad region, the Russian Life Saving Society on Water, the Russian Union of Rescuers and volunteers.

The training manoeuvres featured water SWAT patrol boats, two boats of the Search and Rescue Service, a boat from the Vodokanal Emergency Rescue Service, a Pilarn GUN watercraft equipped with a oil waste disposal complex, fire boats “Silver” and “Courageous” of the Federal Fire-Fighting Service in St. Petersburg, fire rescue vehicles, two vehicles from the Municipal Medical Aid Station, a Ka-32 multipurpose helicopter, an Mi-8 helicopter, and more.
