OREANDA-NEWS. The Europe Day could be officially marked on 9 May, concomitantly with the Victory Day. The cabinet today approved an initiative by a group of lawmakers on completion of the list of the commemorative days, holidays and days-off.   

The initiatives authors said that declaring the 9 May day as Europe Day was of symbolical significance for Moldova, which declared European integration as the main desideratum of the foreign policy promoted. At the same time, the authors noted that Moldova had become a Council of Europe member on 13 July 1995, and the Moldova- EU Association Agreement had been signed in Brussels on 27 June 2014.   

The amendments are to be made to the parliament decision on commemorative days, holidays and days-off in Moldova, as well as to the Labour Code.

The Europe Day or the Schuman is marked by the European Union and partner countries on 9 May. The holidays was established in the memory of French Foreign Minister Robert Schuman, who is considered as the founder of the European Union.
