OREANDA-NEWS The businessman said that because of assets blocked in European and British jurisdictions, he might not have enough money to pay the necessary bills. "Everything we've been building for 30 years is now completely ruined," he said.

Petr Aven, who until recently headed Alfa Bank's board of directors and was hit by Western sanctions, told the Financial Times that he doesn't know if he has enough money to pay at least the most necessary bills.

"Will I be able to afford [to pay] a cleaner or a driver? I don't drive myself ... Maybe my stepdaughter will drive. We don't understand how to survive," said Aven, who is now in London. According to the Financial Times, he owns a two-level apartment in the prestigious St. James district, as well as a mansion in the suburbs. His property rights have been frozen, as have his bank accounts and other assets under EU and British sanctions.

According to the newspaper, Aven can be deported from Great Britain within 20 days (he has Latvian and Russian citizenship and a valid US visa), but he wants to stay in the country. His wife and child are with him now. "If I leave [the UK], I will no longer have the opportunity to return," he explained.

"His life changed overnight, he says, snapping his fingers," the Financial Times writes. - Our business is completely destroyed. Everything we've been building for 30 years is now completely ruined. And somehow we have to start a new life."

According to Forbes, changing in real time, Aven's current fortune is $4.4 billion.

The EU imposed sanctions against Aven on Feb. 28. Then on March 15, Britain also put the businessman on its sanctions lists. "Aven is a well-known Russian businessman and pro-Kremlin oligarch," the British sanctions documents said.

Amid sanctions, Aven resigned from the board of directors of Alfa Bank and from the board of directors of the Genesis Philanthropy Group (GPG).

On March 24, Great Britain imposed sanctions against Alfa Bank. The financial organization reported that it was working as usual, but would stop making payments to Britain. Previously, Alfa Bank had already come under EU sanctions.
