OREANDA-NEWS. Investigators in the Komi Republic opened a criminal case on extremism against five adherents of the organization «Jehovah's Witnesses» (banned in the Russian Federation). One of them was arrested, the Investigative Committee (IC) reported.

The case under Article 282.2 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation based on the materials of the regional departments of the FSB and the Ministry of Internal Affairs. It was reported on Thursday, March 4, on the agency's website.

According to the investigation, in 2017-2021, the defendants, adhering to the extremist ideology of the «Jehovah's Witnesses», and knowing, that this organization was liquidated in the Russian Federation by a court decision, continued to participate in it's illegal activities and involve new members.

Acting in a conspiracy, they were engaged in the general management and coordination of the organization's activities, held meetings of it's members, and collected funds for it's financing, the IC noted.

«In the criminal case, searches were conducted at the places of residence of the defendants and other alleged participants of the banned organization. More than 10 people were questioned as witnesses», the IC said.
