Deripaska Won Lawsuit against The Times, The Telegraph and The Nation
OREANDA-NEWS. The Arbitration Court of the Krasnodar Krai (Russia) satisfied the lawsuit on protection of the business reputation of Russian businessman Oleg Deripaska against three British periodicals: The Times, The Telegraph and The Nation. Information about it is in the card on the court website.
A lawsuit against Times Newspapers Limited, Telegraph Media Group Limited, and The Nation Company LLC was filed on September 13 2019.
According to the representative of the businessman, he demanded that the media publish a refutation of the information on the basis of which the United States of America imposed sanctions against him. The Treasury Department of the USA justified sanctions with only three newspaper articles from a decade ago. In March 2019, a businessman asked to lift the sanctions, because of which his assets decreased by 7.5 billion US dollars.
In early September, Deripaska called the Russian judges a group that “not only does not adequately assess what is happening in the economy, but also makes inadequate decisions.”Before that, the district court in the Krasnodar Krai twice satisfied the claims of Deripaska: Nastya Rybka and Alex Leslie were obliged to remove the materials that formed the basis of the investigation of well-known opposition leader, the founder of the Anti-Corruption Foundation Alexey Navalny about unofficial meetings of the businessman with the Deputy Prime Minister Sergei Prikhodko, and obliged the defendants to pay to Deripaska 500 thousand roubles (about 7,800 US dollars).
