President of the European Council Charles Michel announced the convening of an emergency meeting of leaders of member countries in the format of a video conference to discuss the fight against the coronavirus pandemic. “Inviting leaders for an informal video conference on 29 October 2020 on COVID-19. We need to strengthen our collective effort to fight COVID-19,” the politician wrote on his Twitter page.

Due to the second wave of COVID-19 pandemic, the authorities of the EU countries are taking restrictive measures. On October 20, Ireland reintroduced full-scale quarantine restrictions that were in effect during the spring peak. The second state, where a lockdown was announced again, was the Czech Republic. Quarantine measures are being introduced in Belgium, where the European Commission, the Council of the EU and the European Parliament work. A curfew is in effect in a number of cities in France.
