OREANDA-NEWS The Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS) is "working on the issue of improving the antimonopoly legislation. The idea is to extend the norms concerning monopolists to other market participants, including intermediaries. The department wants to punish the companies for overpricing in a period of high demand, the press-service of FAS told "Izvestiya".

The final decision on changing the antitrust law has not been made yet, the antitrust authorities specified.

On March 24 antitrust service reported about initiation of proceedings against "Pyatyorochka" and "Magnit" because of the lack of sugar in the stores of Voronezh region. During the inspection, "significant stocks of granulated sugar" were found in the warehouses of the companies. "At the same time, the companies synchronously did not supply goods to the stores, supporting a rush of demand," the FAS pointed out.

Now the norms of antitrust regulation apply only to large companies that occupy a significant part of the market. The department wants to extend this practice to other retailers.

It is regularly proposed in Russia to fix retail prices for certain products, like limiting sugar and sunflower oil prices in 2020-2021. One of the Rosrybolovstvo's latest initiatives is to keep fish prices down.
