OREANDA-NEWS. In Moscow, five members of the terrorist organization Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant were detained.

According to the Federal Security Service (FSB), they are suspected of intent to commit acts of sabotage and terrorist acts. “The FSB, together with the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs in Moscow, put an end to the activities of members of the international terrorist organization Islamic State banned in the Russian Federation, which included two Russian citizens and three natives of Central Asian countries who intended to commit sabotage and terrorist acts,” the agency said in a statement. A criminal proceeding has been initiated. A measure of restraint in the form of custodial placement has been selected for all five persons. The agency did not provide information about the identities of the members of the Islamic State and the date of their detention.

The FSB added that during the investigative actions, a cache belonging to the detainees was discovered. A Kalashnikov rifle, a Makarov pistol, ammunition and an improvised explosive device were found in it. During the search, “communication facilities with the instructions from the emissaries” of the Islamic State were discovered.

In November, the FSB reported that Islamic State’s recruiters and leaders and members of the Hizb ut-Tahrir terrorist organization were detained in the Moscow Region.

In December, FSB Director Alexander Bortnikov said that in 2019 his subordinates allowed not a single terrorist attack in Russia. “The coordinated actions of law enforcement agencies enabled to prevent the vast majority of terrorist activities and avert terrorist acts,” he said.
