OREANDA-NEWS. Russia will not tolerate statements by the United States about preconditions for working on security guarantees. This was stated by Sergey Ryabkov, Deputy Head of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA), on Thursday, 23 December.

He said that the Russian diplomats were hoping for a swift formalisation of the treaties.

- "If the precondition from the American side becomes the requirement that we carry out some activities on our own territory, which Washington and other NATO capitals would "like," then it will not work," the politician said in an interview with the publication "International Life.

On 17 December, the Russian Foreign Ministry published draft treaties with NATO and the US on security guarantees. The first document stipulated that the sides must not deploy missiles where they could hit the territory of the other side.

The sides also pledged not to create conditions in which Russia or NATO could perceive each other's actions as a threat. The second security assurances document with the US stipulates that the countries must not deploy nuclear weapons abroad and must not conduct military exercises with a plan to use nuclear weapons.

On the same day, White House press secretary Jen Psaki said the US had seen Russia's security assurance proposals. Washington will discuss them with European allies and partners, she concluded.
