OREANDA-NEWSThe government introduced a bill to the State Duma that allows foreigners not to renounce citizenship upon receipt of a Russian passport. The document is published in the database of the lower house of parliament.

In addition, the bill proposes to repeal the provision requiring to stay in Russia for three years and confirm the availability of means of subsistence for those who were citizens of the USSR, lived or reside in the territories that were its members. The exemption applies to foreigners married to Russian citizens living in the country with common children. In addition, foreigners can apply for Russian citizenship in a simplified manner, with at least one parent being a Russian citizen residing in the country.

The authorities submitted a project to simplify the acquisition of Russian citizenship in October last year. According to the concept of migration policy approved by the president for 2019–2025, the main directions in this area should be the simplicity and transparency of the conditions for acquiring Russian citizenship.
