OREANDA-NEWS. The Portuguese charitable foundation Calouste Gulbenkian has awarded the 17-year-old Swedish eco-activist Greta Thunberg with the Prize for Humanity of 1 million euros regarding her efforts to preserve the environment and involve young people in this struggle.

The activist decided to distribute the money to organizations that are trying to protect the world ecology from human impact. “That is more money than I can even begin to imagine, but all the prize money will be donated through my foundation to different organizations and projects who are working to help people on the front lines affected by the climate crisis,” Thunberg said on Twitter. It is known that 100 thousand euros will be received by the SOS Amazonia Campaign, created by the Brazilian branch of the movement Fridays for Future, founded by Thunberg. The similar sum will go to the Stop Ecocide Foundation “to support their work to make ecocide an international crime”.

In July, Thunberg received 100 thousand US dollars from a Danish foundation and donated it to the UNICEF to help the fight against the COVID-19 epidemic.
