OREANDA-NEWS. The Libyan National Army (LNA), headed by Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar, sent a message to the US administration asking to establish international control over Libya’s borders. This was reported by the TV channel Al-Arabiya, citing sources.

The purpose of establishing control is to prevent the transfer of additional forces by Turkey to help the Government of National Accord (GNA). The LNA insists on international control over land and sea terminals in order to prevent the transfer of weapons and equipment by Ankara to the country.

A few days ago, Haftar claimed that Turkey continues to send mercenaries of different nationalities, not only Syrians, to Libya.

At the end of 2019, the GNA, led by Prime Minister Fayez al-Sarraj, asked Ankara for help in the fight against the LNA. Turkey has deployed in Libya thousands of fighters from the Syrian opposition. Thanks to Turkish support, the siege of Tripoli was lifted in June 2020; after that LNA forces were dislodged from western Libya.
