OREANDA-NEWS. In Moscow, a terrorist cell from the organization Hizb ut-Tahrir al-Islami *, banned in Russia, has been destroyed, eight people have been detained, the FSB of the Russian Federation reported on Monday.

"In Moscow and the Moscow region, the activities of a cell of the international terrorist organization Hizb ut-Tahrir al-Islami * were suppressed, two ringleaders and six of its active participants were detained," the message says.

According to the security officials, the Islamists conducted "anti-constitutional activities" based on the doctrine of the creation of a "world caliphate", the destruction of the institutions of secular society and the violent overthrow of the government.

In the course of conspiratorial gatherings, they disseminated terrorist ideology among the inhabitants of the Moscow region. Banned propaganda materials were seized from the detainees.

A criminal case has been initiated, the investigation is ongoing. When exactly the special operation took place is not specified.

The "Party of Islamic Liberation" ("Hizb ut-Tahrir al-Islami") * is recognized as terrorist in a number of countries of the world, in Russia its activities were banned by the decision of the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation of 2003.

The goal of the organization is to eliminate non-Muslim governments and establish Islamic rule on a worldwide scale by creating a "world Islamic caliphate." Members of Hizb ut-Tahrir al-Islami * are regularly detained in various Russian regions, mainly in large cities in Central Russia, the Volga region and Siberia, as well as in Crimea.
