OREANDA-NEWS. Azerbaijani citizens at a temporary accommodation center in the Republic of Dagestan (Russia) attacked police officers because they were unable to return home.

“Azerbaijani citizens began to resent and demand crossing the border, attacked four police officers, crashed cars, so additional forces were drawn up. Now everyone has calmed down,” head of Derbent District, Fuad Shakhiev, said.

According to him, at the moment the conflict is settled, and the situation is under the control of local authorities. Shikhiev explained that the conflict occurred after citizens received a list of 120 names, which was formed by the Azerbaijani side. They were supposed to return to homeland in the coming days, when the special corridor will be organized through the customs checkpoint Yarag-Kazmalyar. People were outraged because of the fact that not everyone was included in the list.

A temporary accommodation center for Azerbaijani citizens was built two months ago due to the wide spread of coronavirus infection. It houses people who did not leave Russia before the border was closed. Currently, there are about 800 people in the center.
