OREANDA-NEWS. French authorities have called up 3.5 thousand reservists to serve in the police after the terrorist attack in Nice on October 29. This was announced by the head of the French Interior Ministry, Gerald Darmanin, after a meeting of the Defense Council held at the Elysee Palace.

“The Defense Council has decided to increase vigilance; 3.5 thousand reservist gendarmes are called up from Monday at the disposal of the prefects,” the politician said. According to him, additional mobile police and gendarme units of 3.5 thousand people are involved to ensure order.

Darmanin clarified that “120 police officers will be sent to Nice, where the terrorist attack took place the day before, to enhance security.” The Minister recalled that on the eve the French authorities transferred the plan to combat terrorism Vigipirate to the highest level of readiness. The Interior Minister noted that security will be also strengthened because of upcoming All Saints Day, as well as the end of school holidays.
